Camp Joslin

Camp Joslin, operated by Joslin Diabetes Center which is affiliated with Harvard Medical School, is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization. It is extremely costly to run our programs and we rely on the generous donations of private individuals, corporations and foundations to ensure that we reach as many children as possible.

Eighty years ago Dr. Joslin and his team determined it was essential that Camp Joslin serve all children with diabetes who wish to attend Camp. This year we needed to raise in excess of $400,000 to ensure that we would have enough scholarship money to reach the more than 1,500 children and families living with diabetes that we serve. We have never turned a child away because of a family’s inability to afford the cost of camp tuition. The cost of sending a child to Camp Joslin is approximately $1,450 per week and $2,900 for two weeks.

Our professional and recreation staffs offer individualized counseling, expert medical care, diabetes-specific nutrition and exercise training. Many families with children with diabetes do not have the resources to join us for these important programs and your support ensures that we reach more of these great young people and families.

Camp Joslin is the only diabetes specialty camp that has completed an Outcomes Research Study (click here to view study abstract) that proved participation in our camping programs has a significant, positive impact on campers’ life-long health. This outcome is significant as diabetes is still the leading cause of blindness in working-age adults in the United States, as well as being the leading cause of non-traumatic amputation, kidney disease and kidney failure. People with diabetes also have four times the risk of early cardiovascular challenges and death than populations without diabetes.
