Winter Camp
Winter Camp Joslin and Barton Style
Teenagers with diabetes face unique challenges. Developmental changes and new social situations make living with diabetes even tougher. Winter Camp offers great activities and interactive discussions around the topics of diabetes in school, exercise, nutrition, research and technology...all designed to give teenagers the skills to successfully manage their diabetes through these tough years. This program will also be a great chance to meet some cool new friends and enjoy the beautiful winter weather in central Massachusetts.
For Winter Camp 2006, Joslin will be collaborating with The Barton Center. The idea to join forces on this incredible program was born as staff members from both Barton and Joslin piled into a van to head home after last October's Diabetes Education and Camping Association's annual conference, each boasting about whose camp was better. Soon someone suggested combining Barton's long track record of fantastic Fall, Winter, Spring programs with Joslin's 35 great years of working with teenagers at Winter Camp to create one super program. And so, six hours and 350 miles later, focused on giving teenagers with diabetes four days of amazing activities and fun diabetes education, two camps combine for one incredible program!
