Research Information
A team of investigators conducts research designed to strengthen our knowledge and understanding of the needs, characteristics and challenges of Latinos living with or at risk for diabetes. Our investigators strive to increase patient participation in our existing clinical research studies as well as Latino-focused research.
We are currently seeking volunteers for the following studies involving the Latino population:
- Study Assessing Adherence to Treatment and Its Determinants in Latino Patients with Type 2 Diabetes
The increasing number of Latinos with diabetes in the U.S. requires culturally appropriate diabetes care and education programs. In order to develop such programs, some general, socioeconomic and cultural factors need to be assessed. As part of the initial evaluation of new patients to the Latino Diabetes Initiative Clinical Program at Joslin Clinic, we have integrated a series of questionnaires to assess some of these variables. These questionnaires are validated in Spanish.
- We are also currently seeking Latinos with type 2 diabetes for a research study to examine the relationship among demographic, clinical and psychosocial variables with diabetes self-care management, and the availability to follow diabetes self-care recommendations. The study involves one visit to Joslin. The visit can be done in English or Spanish.
